33才で自殺という形で人生を終えた、孤高の天才、Donny Hathaway のライブ編集盤。
'71年にリリースされた「LIVE」と死後にリリースされた'80年の「In Performance」から数曲と未発表音源をまとめたもの。Rhino から6月半ばにリリースされていたらしい。山下達郎氏の東京FMの「サンデーソングブック」のO.A.リストで発見！仕事を放っぽり出して、近くのHMVで在庫確認して、ゲットしてきました。
Rhinoの編集盤だけあって、アーティストに対して最大の敬意を払いつつ一本のライブとして編集してある。でも、全体的な流れは「LIVE」には到底かなわない。だけれども、収録されているそれぞれの曲は、すばらしいクオリティをもっていて、涙、涙、涙で迫ってくる。
とりあえず、Donny Hathaway を知らない人には、入門編といえるようなお得なライブ編集盤というところでしょうか。ブラックミュージックが好きで、Donny Hathaway を知らない人にはぜひ聴いて欲しい1枚であり、知っている人も未発表音源に涙する1枚！買って損はなし！
